CASS (Computer Assisted Stereotactic Surgery)

Midco

CASS (Computer Assisted Stereotactic Surgery) is the most comprehensiveand advanced planning system in the world. CASS provides accurate andpowerful pre-operative, operative, and post-operative simulation andplanning tools for all forms of stereotactic procedures. All CASS systems are completely flexible, providing image acquisitionfrom any scanner (CT, MR, Angiography, PET, SPECT, and more) using avariety of transfer methods (camera, tape, film scanner, ethernet) andcan be used with any stereotactic frame. Once images are captured, theImage Building feature provides several conceptualization methods, including construction of new images based on size and position ofexisting images; Image fusion; and Multi-View to simultaneously visualizeprobes, maps, tumors, and the like, in different image windows and evenin different imaging techniques. Simplified image manipulation tools arealso available -- such as Edge Detection, Contrast Ramping, Colorization,Gray Scale Mapping, and Image Comparison -- to aid in the overallanalysis.Over 40 hardware and software options can be integrated, customizing thesystem to meet the needs and demands of the neurosurgeon's clinicalpractice and environment. Software modules include:electrophysiological libraries with the Talairach/Tournoux mapping systemfor analysis of patient profiles in 2-D or 3-D representations. All ofthese mapping systems can be combined for display together with MR and/orCT images, and can be used in conjunction with any other CASS module.accurate anatomical positioning of depth electrodes, epidural button andcortical subdural flaps.accelerator and features quality assurance routines, dosimetry planningand dose volume histograms. Other features include unique visualizationtools such as interactive "Beam's Eye View" and "Tetraview" -- a view ofthe treatment plan from four distinct angles.alignment between computed and real-world positions of catheters andradioisotope seeds as well as MOLDR (Mathematical Optimization andLogical Dimensioning for Radiotherapy) for complete and automatic 3-Doptimization during brachytherapy treatment planning.allows the display and manipulation of a solid model of the whole brain, including the selective display of substructures defined from a varietyof mapping methods.Designed for simplicity, CASS features an easy-to-use interface presentedin a fully interactive display. Point-and-click operation allows foronscreen manipulation and measurement of multidimensional image data.CASS can simulate an entire operative procedure and each procedure, including the associated images, can be accurately logged and archived byCASS' special medical/legal tape archiving system.
